Last year, I wrote my first half of the year’s top Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2021, so here are my favorites for the end of the year. Happy reading!

  1. Between Enzo & the Universe by Chase Connor
Okay, look. All I can say about this book is that it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever read. That is all. Take my word for it (and everyone else’s) and just read it. You won’t be disappointed. (Psst, the sequel, The Warmth of Our Closest Star, comes out July 8, 2022)
  2. Aristotle & Dante Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
This is the sequel to the amazing Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Of course, this was just as beautiful, but prepare to shed some tears.
  3. Stay by Ash Knight
This was somewhat of a second chance-type story between Joe and Madden. Joe is homeless and also on the autism spectrum, and meets Madden one day at a local coffee shop where he has been offered a job. It’s a simple premise. Very sweet yet angsty.
Trigger Warning: Sexual, physical, & emotional abuse
  4. In This Iron Ground by Marina Vivancos
This was the first book I had read by Marina Vivancos, and I love her writing style and prose. This is a story of found family with supernatural elements. It is heartbreaking, but the characters’ growth is very well written, and all of it is just… *chef’s kiss*
Trigger Warning: Child abuse & neglect, suicidal ideation & attempt
  5. Rat Park by Marina Vivancos
This was the second book I read by this author, and it was just as fantastic. This is also a story of found family, but there aren’t any supernatural elements.
Trigger Warning: Drug use, past child neglect & endangerment
  6. The Last Thing He Needs by J.H. Knight
I’m a sucker for angsty content. I can’t help it. This is an enemies to friends to lovers story, but kind of not… This details the complexities of any relationship as opposed to offering up a fantastical “love at first sight” story.
Trigger Warning: Child neglect, substance abuse & addiction
  7. Lesser Known Monsters by Rory Michaelson
If you’re looking for a super fun and original urban fantasy story with charming characters, then pick this up.
  8. Top Priority by Cara Dee
This book actually starts out in my hometown, and while I loved the book, I initially had some qualms because it wasn’t an accurate depiction… Aside from that, I really enjoyed this book and loved the relationship between Lucas and Colt.
    Content Warning: BDSM
  9. This Wound You Want by Cara Hart
This novella is heartbreaking and devastating. There is nothing happy about this whatsoever, but beautiful nonetheless. Please heed all warnings.
Trigger Warning: Sexual, physical, & emotional abuse
  10. Last Minute Walk-In by E.M. Lindsey
This is a novella following Free Hand (of the Iron & Works series), which explored Basil and Derek’s relationship. I would definitely read Free Hand first.
